Sentence Rewriting Assistant
Reword sentences with transparent rules — shorter, clearer, more formal, or simpler.
Editing suggestions
This assistant applies deterministic rules only — it is not an AI rewriter. Advanced AI rewriting can be added later; the code is structured for it.
What this tool does
The Sentence Rewriting Assistant applies deterministic transformations to your text. Choose from four modes: Shorter (removes filler and splits long sentences), Clearer (normalizes spacing and flags vague constructions), More formal (expands contractions), and Simpler (swaps complex words for common alternatives).
We deliberately do not pretend this is an AI rewriter. Deterministic rules are predictable and safe, but they cannot genuinely paraphrase complex prose. Where a safe transformation is not possible, the tool gives you editing suggestions instead of mangling your sentences.
This honesty matters: tools that claim to "rewrite" text with a thesaurus often produce worse, ungrammatical output. This assistant only changes what it can change reliably, and tells you when manual editing is the right move.
How to use it
- Paste a sentence or short passage.
- Choose a mode: Shorter, Clearer, More formal, or Simpler.
- Read the rewritten text and the note explaining what changed.
- Review the editing suggestions for anything the tool could not safely fix.
How it works
- Shorter mode removes filler phrases ("in order to", "basically", "very") and splits long sentences at sentence boundaries.
- More formal expands common contractions like "don't" to "do not" and "can't" to "cannot".
- Simpler mode replaces a curated list of complex words ("utilize" → "use", "commence" → "start").
- When a mode makes no safe change, the tool says so and returns manual suggestions instead.
Example
Input "We basically utilize a tool in order to commence the process." → Shorter mode: "We use a tool to start the process."
